CrossFit Sectionals 2010 – Weekend Highlights

This last weekend nine of us competed at CrossFit Sectionals in Monroe, Washington, with nearly 200 athletes from the state of Washington.

Here are some highlights:

“Cleet” was outweighed by every other male competitor there by at least 20-pounds.  On day one he was required to press and squat weights that weighed nearly as much as him.  The final event had him pushing a sled that DID weigh as much as him… and he did it barefoot…  seriously…  I think just so one day when his grandkids are complaining he can tell them about how when he was their age, he pushed a sled that weighed as much as he did… barefoot.

Kiersten finished in the top ten in three of the five events including putting up the fourth best score of the day for the Sectional’s version of Fight Gone Bad.  The highlight, though, might have been watching her knock-out ten muscle-ups during the final workout.

Cam’s goal was to finish every workout.  Not only did he do that, out of 100+ men competing, he put up the 26th best score for the Run/Press workout and the 40th best score for Fight Gone Bad.  He also put up the FASTEST time for those rocking pull-ups in the final workout.

Emily, like Cam, had the goal to go in and finish everything.  She ended up setting a new PR on her deadlift, knocked out 31-reps of push jerk with 100 pounds, rocked some handstand push-ups, and crushed forty front-squats with 105 pounds!

Jonathan is a 19-year-old machine.  He finished 36th on Fight Gone Bad and 26th on the final workout that included 20 muscle-ups.  I predict big things for him and all of our Jogo Sport men in 2011.

Jenn finished in the top twenty in three of the five events including a 7th place finish in Fight Gone Bad and a 4th place finish in the final workout.  That workout included her effortlessly knocking out 10 muscle-ups like she had been doing them her entire life.

Brad went out with a BANG, putting up huge efforts in the final three workouts.  He put up a top 25 score for Fight Gone Bad and then another top 25 score for his five-rep-max deadlift.  The last workout he rocked out 20 muscle-ups like a 5′5 gymnast.  Stellar.

Speaking of gymnasts, Lindsey just might have had the most endearing performance of the weekend.  She got her first muscle-up TWO weeks ago and went ahead and knocked out four during the final workout…  finishing that workout with the 16th best score of the day.  She also took 14th on Fight Gone Bad, and 20th on the handstand push-up workout, knocking out 30+ handstand push-ups.

Em was one “proud parent” all weekend. Knowing how hard the team worked over the last couple of months and seeing that hard work pay off filled her with sunshine and happiness. She ended up finishing in the top ten in four of the five events.

We finished off with four of our women placing in the TOP FIFTEEN – individually we took home 3rd, 4th, 8th and 13th place.  We now have to decide whether to compete individually or as part of our affiliate cup team for the Regional competition in May.

Our Jogo Sport men put up awesome performances and are still nowhere near their potential.  They will be scary good in 2011.

We had over forty Jogo’ers show up over the two-days to support us.  It was far and away the biggest group of supporters in attendance and a huge testament to how special the Jogo Community is.  Thank you again and again and again to everyone who came down and shared the weekend with us.
